Pu Erh

Pu Erh tea is a fermented and often aged black tea from the Yunnan province in China and therefore has a very special taste. The Pu Erh teas go through a special production process that involves a microbial fermentation and oxidation of the tea leaves after they have been dried and rolled. The taste is dark and earthy and often requires the patience of getting used to it. The tea has been used for medicinal use in China, and is known to have special effects (these can be found online). All types of Pu Erh teas can be saved for maturation before drinking, which is why Pu Erh teas are often labelled with the year and region of production. The name of the tea is pronounced “pu’ar”.
