Baroness Blend – formerly known as Karen Blixen Blend – is based on the Chinese black tea Panyong. Panyong has for many years been delivered to Buckingham Palace, where especially Queen Elizabeth II loved this lovely, soft and round tea. In this tea blend, panyong is mixed with an Earl Grey variant with grapefruit, lemon and orange. It has fresh but delicate notes of citrus, and is recommended as a fresher alternative to the classic Earl Grey.
The classic Earl Grey is named after British Prime Minister Earl Grey ofHowick Hall. It is said that during a trip to China, Earl Grey saved the life of a mandarin, and to show his gratitude, the Earl of Grey was given the recipe for a delicate bergamot tea. He took the recipe with him back to England, and the tea is today the most widespread tea in the world.
This tea has a low level of tannins.
Recommended preparation: 100°C water/10 g. per liter water.
